My Pets’ Update: July 2011 – August 2011

Well, I haven’t done a ‘My Pets’ Update’ for a while, so I’ve decided to one that convers the last two months. Ok, so I know it’s actually the beginning of September as I write this, but hopefully I’ll get round to doing another update very soon.

Well actually I did do an update on August 4th 2011 – but it only covered the shetlands, and that was because we were buying Rosie (Hermits Velvet Rose)! Read the entry here.

And yes, we did buy Rosie, and have since decided we would like to buy her foal, Mignon Velvet (or Victor as we call him due to my rabbit being named Velvet).

So, Rosie and Victor arrived on August 5th and made friends with our ponies (Goldsytch Gradbach and Morjoy Tulip) every easily I’m pleased to say. Tulip immediatly went off with Rosie and they spent ages grooming each other and bonding whilst Gradbach watched from quite a distance away.

Victor is getting quite big now, he’s nearly as tall as Rosie, and he loves to creep up behind Gradbach and nip him in order to get the stallion to chase him. Funny enough, Gradbach doesn’t seem to mind (a lot) and plays with Victor quite a lot.

Tulip is also VERY protective of Rosie’s foal and is nearly always closer to Victor than Rosie is herself!

Rosie has also settled in very well and is getting more and more friendlier.

Now onto the other animals:

My giant african land snail, Felicity, never did come out of hibernation, and after trying to bring her out by giving her a warm bath, we decided to burry her.

We continued to treat Star (guinea pig) for mites, but unfortunately she had to be put down on 26th August 2011.

Velvet, my rabbit recently had his next injections (for CYLAP and myamatosis) and spent a morning happily running around my Nana’s living room! He’s never been indoors before but was very well behaved, and even went back into the cat basket when he needed to go to the toilet!

The rest of the guinea pigs are all fine and as squeaky as ever!

We haven’t seen Horace for awhile but we’re sure he’s still out there. [edit: 4 sep ’11 – Just seen Horace in the Valley field]. And Barny (the barn owl) is out most nights flying over the ponies’ field.

So here’s a summary of all the animals we have at our farm:

Goldsytch Gradbach (Shetland)

Morjoy Tulip (Shetland)

Hermits Velvet Rose (Shetland)

Mignon Velvet -aka Victor (Shetland)

Aurea (Guinea Pig)

Gerty (Guinea Pig)

Orchid (Guinea Pig)

Pixie (Guinea Pig)

Hazel (Guinea Pig)

Velvet (Rabbit)

Horace (Pheasant)

Barny (Barn Owl)

We’ve also seen quite a few deer recently too, including an absolutely tiny one!
