Velvet’s Big Day Out – 24 August 2011

Ok, so I’m a little bit behind with writing this post, but everything’s just been so busy!

So on the 24th August 2011 Velvet (my black rex rabbit) was due to have his next injection (he has one for CYLAP every year and one every six months for anti-myxomatosis) so we took him in the cat basket to the vets.

Firstly however, we went to visit my Nana at her house, and because it was rather warm in the car we took Velvet in the house with us. And then my Nana asked to see him and said it was ok for him to run around her living room, so we let Velvet out.

At first he was really cautious and a little scared of his new surroundings, but after a while he was running about and jumping all around the living room.

Now, Velvet isn’t a house rabbit and this was the first time that he’d actually been inside a house, and he was very well behaved – even going back into the cat basket when he needed to go to the toilet!

My rabbit is also moulting. A lot. His black fur is going literally everywhere and there’s just so much of it.

After spending about 35 minutes running around my Nana’s living room, Velvet was off to his next place: the vets.

He had his anti-myxi injection and behaved very well. From what I gather from speaking to the vet, some of the vaccine has to go just in or under the skin, so Velvet had part of it injected at the base of his ear. He was very well behaved and stood perfectly still.

Following his last visit to the vets when he last had an injection for CYLAP the vet told us he needs to maintain his weight. And when he was weighed this time is weight was exactly the same. Not a gram less or a gram more. You can’t maintain your weight better than that!

After his injection Velvet had to stay at the vets a further twentyish minutes (we had a dentist appointment) and then we collected him and brought him home.

What a day for Velvet!
